Twinkle's Story: Chapter 4

We must of been hugging for a while because suddenly we heard a knock on the door. Duke and I stop hugging, and I take a step, my back to the curtain. My parents and Miss Fox open the curtain, and they come over to where Duke and I are. The door of my temporary room opens, and there my doctor is. Doctor Fox.
Honestly, I think Dr. Fox is a nerd. He doesn't have the nerdy glasses or anything; it just is.
He speaks- oddly. Dr. Fox is Miss Fox's older brother though, and I have to respect him as much as my teacher. Also because he is my doctor who can keep me alive- or kill me.

The rest of us sit down among chairs spread around the room as Dr. Fox walks (almost marches) to the center of the room where we are. He observes all of us- from Duke at the closest to the door to Miss Fox at the other end. He kinda bows his head and nods. First, he speaks with Miss Fox. "Hello sister. How are you?" I look at her. She rolled her eyes as she said, "Fine. I'm fine, brother. Now stop giving all your attention to me, and start telling us what happened to Twinkle and what precautions she should take." Dr. Fox sighs, "Oh of course. My bad." He makes a weird sound- almost a laugh. "What I'm about to tell Twinkle and her parents is private information. Anyone who is not related to Twinkle, I kindly ask you to step out of the room for a moment please. You too, sister." It doesn't matter because Miss Fox whipped her tail as she headed out of the room, probably because she can't stand her brother. Then as Duke gets up from the chair, I make a purposed cough. Dr. Fox turns his head to me. "Well, what is it?" I look at Duke who is halfway standing up, halfway sitting down. He looks confused and looks at me too. I give him a look, but I'm not sure he understands it. I stammer, "Well, uh... doc- I mean doctor! Does he... uh Duke... have to umm leave? I know he isn't part of my family but still. Can he please stay? He's not doing anything wrong or anything-" My doctor interrupts me and replies, "May. May, not 'can'. And no, Duke can't stay here. I'll be discussing vital information to you, and I bet it would make you feel uncomfortable if he stays." I think to myself, 'You know what? You are making me uncomfortable! Such a grammar freak, geez.' I lose my train of thought when Duke stands up again. Since he's next to me, he whispers in my ear. "It's okay. Twinkle. I'll go just step out into the hall. Be strong when Dr. Fox tells you the news." With a puzzled look in my eyes, Duke pats my shoulder and heads out of the room.

Now it just leaves Dr. Fox, my parents, and me in the room. Dr. Fox sighs as he reaches up into a cabinet and pulls out a folder with my name on it.
He carries it toward us and opens it. I see a kinda anxious look in his eyes. He pulls out a paper from the folder. I see it has tons of stuff written over it, and areas of light orange, white, light blue, ice blue, lavender, purple, and black. Dr. Fox sits down on a chair, now facing my parents and I who are now next to me.
Dr. Fox clears his throat and begins. "Ah now you're wondering. How did Twinkle suddenly get blue fur? She was light orange, a typical fox fur color, before. Well, let me explain. Twinkle was at Zios' grave, sitting dangerously close to it, especially when it was at a high phantom rate- Mira knows why she stayed. More phantoms come indicating on the color in the grave. Light purple or lavender means a phantom is occasionally here or there. A darker purple means that phantoms are forming into close groups. A dark gray or black means lots of phantoms are formed together in one close group. Their chemistry forming clouds of dust-like material, which are dark gray or black when they're close to each other. The darker the color is, the more phantoms there are, basically.
Twinkle with her orange fur couldn't deal with the pressure of the blackness of the phantoms, which caused her to pass out, which caused her to be brought to the hospital. The mixture of orange and white with black and purple made Twinkle's fur now seem to be blue and lighter blue. And yes, I know orange and black doesn't make light blue, and that white and purple doesn't make ice blue. Twinkle's body functions have caused that to happen due to her skin cells that indicate the color her fur is.
It is permanent, so you can say it has changed Twinkle's DNA. However, the sudden change has made her body weak. Therefore, she'll have to wear some special accessories." Dr. Fox comes over to me and gives a small area on my tail a slight pinch. Usually, that wouldn't cause me to yowl, but that did. It wasn't because of me giving my tail a slight tug before, I'm sure. I give him a hey-why-did-you-do-that-for look. I rub my sore area, but it just makes it hurt even more. "Exactly. Twinkle's tail is weak, for example. So I will put this on her tail so she won't feel so much pain everywhere she goes. Don't worry, it's all new and all hers." My doctor pulls out an odd shaped clothing piece that looks like it's made of metal and is heavy. He explains to me that that's a tail protective piece, and since my tail hurt the most, he is putting it on first.

Dr. Fox holds up my tail. Now my tail isn't hurting as badly. He opens up the tail piece, and puts my entire tail inside. He closes it again on the bottom. My tail droops. My tail is heavy! The pressure of it against my tail hurts a little, but it slowly ebbs away. I lift my tail up higher, and trace a claw on its smooth round areas and the cracks in it.  So unnatural, like my fur color.   Then, Dr. Fox pulls out something else for me to wear too.   "I  knew we shouldn't have allowed her to go on that field trip!" My mother cries in my father's ear.  "That awful place has affected our family too much. Fauna dying there, and now Twinkle having to deal with this too. Such tragedy of our once perfect little group- now lost." My father says, "Ah yes. I guess only allowing Twinkle to go out in the public to go to school, isn't good enough. We have to make more restrictions to keep her safe."  They just made me furious.  I stand up and glare at the two of them.  "Such parents you are! Trapping me even more- what's next? You taking away my freedoms? No public school with Miss Fox? It was an accident! No families are perfect. If you two can't deal with me being even more different now, then just GET OUT OF HERE!!! And don't bother me again." Me, filled with rage, kick both my parents out of the room. Dr. Fox just stands there, astonished. I wonder how Miss Fox and Duke will react. Duke. I think about him again. If my parents steal even more from me, how am I able to see Duke? If it's narrowed down to that, then sneaking out might be the only option.
