*Eh, I feel like typing up a chapter while I still have time, so here I am.*
*I have no idea what happened to me last post. I really don't know.*
*So much to do; so little time.*
*Well, enjoy the chapter!*
*Oh and sorry it's so short. And pretty bad.*

CALLIAH
"Is it okay for me to come in?" I hear him ask in that quiet voice of his. Before I can even nod my head, he steps into the room.
Suddenly, I feel cold metal brush against my wrists. When I flash him a look, his deep blue eyes flash and he snarls, "Come on, let's go you piece of filth. You could be very helpful to us."
A heartbreaking feeling comes over me as I realize what he means by this. I sigh. "Why are you doing this? Aren't you his best friend?"
His eyes widen. "Friends? Friends? Oh, you're very funny, Calliah."
He pulls on my right wrist, now covered by a pawcuff, and takes me out into the hallway. When he pushes me into a corner, he blocks the way out. He accusingly points a finger at me. "Listen, I'm not gonna be friends with him- a psycho, a murderer. You're both messed up in the head."
The furs on the back of my neck stand up when he says that word. Murderer. Suddenly, he yanks my wrist again. "Time to go!" he says, curtly.
I'm surprised that he led me to the building's exit. When we walked for a good minute or so, I decide to ask him the question that's been etched in the back of my mind ever since he entered the room where I was staying. We hear a bird call coming from behind us. I take a deep breath and ask him the question.
"Finny, what do you want from me?"
He turns around to face me. He lets out a sinister laugh, but suddenly cuts it off as he says, "To our knowledge, you are the mother of Duke. Or should I say the living Fierdan the Sec--"
"When did you find out about Fierdan?" I demand.
He smiles. "I have my ways. And since you both seem to be related, you likely know information about him that could be vital to me and the team. That's where I'm taking you."
We walk for several minutes, Finny occasionally painfully yanking a metal chain that connects to my pawcuffs. When we walk up to the door, I repeat myself. "What do you want from me?"
A sinister grin grows on his face again. "We want you, Calliah. We want you to join us," he pauses and then continues, "Fill up to your supposedly awful parenting skills. Give your son the ultimate betray--"
"No," I reply, my voice suddenly sounding firm. "No."
The sinister grin is still on his face as he says, "Ha, I'm surprised you're refusing. But if you insist on not cooperating with us, we'll do the same things to you. Any way, you refuse to cooperate, you'll both end up the same. Dead."
I don't think I ever heard such a menacing laugh in my life. Not even from Fierdan.
Then Finny twists the faded gold doorknob, and pushes me inside. He slams the door behind him.
What happened?
DAWN
I twirl in a leaf-green dress I just put on. Pale green flashes past my eyes as I watch the ruffles on the bottom of the dress rise up. Arms raised upwards in a V-shape, I look up at the ceiling and giggle.
He's actually coming. Alone.
I stop twirling, and laugh. This is just so perfect. They found him alone.
Perfect, no one can be in our way. Especially her. No one can.
The emerald green top of the dress sparkles in the light. This is just euphoria.
When I'm done with my plans I have with you, I'll allow you to do anything you want. Alone, with me, anything at all. In fact, you can do anything, say anything you want to me. I won't mind a single thing, you could even have your revenge for what I did to you. But I won't mind. Anything will be alright with me because I'll be able to see you again.
And that's what I've been wishing for all this time.
The only thing I've been wishing for.
I love you.
TWINKLE
When I didn't feel any bright glowing light flowing inside me, my necklace stopped glowing and the turquoise doves and ice wings vanished into thin air. It was such a relief to have that sudden chill throughout my body finally disappear. Almost as if a burden has been lifted.
I wake up to a bird calling into my ear. I shake the bird, a small black bird, off my shoulder it stood on. Then I stretch my arms and sit up.
"What's with me and birds?" I ask myself, then yawn.
When I stand up, I wipe the dirt off the tops of my legs. Suddenly, I hear a soothing bird noise. I turn to look at my right shoulder, the direction of the sound, and see the same black bird resting there.
When our eyes lock, it brushes the side of its dull colored beak against the side of my neck. For some reason, I know that's a sign of affection. I smile as I look into its beady black eyes. I brush its sleek black feathers on its back with a tip of my finger, and it lets out a cooing sound.
After yawning again, I look back at the bird perched on my shoulder.
Before I can realize I'm saying this to a bird, a freaking bird, I say, "Well, I guess I could use some company."
Nice one, Twinkle.
DUKE
Definitely did not remember falling asleep. But I guess I must've miraculously drifted off after Fierdan left.
Fierdan. How the heck did I sleep after what happened last night with him? I can still hear the petrified shrieking in my ears, ringing my eardrums. Fierdan's...
"Wake up!" I rub my eyes and look up through drowsy eyes. One of the government fakes stands at the side of the bed, inches from the pillow, a big smile on his face.
I grumble and sit up on the bed. "Whaddaya want now?" I mutter, looking up at him. Still in a suit. Weird.
He replies with that beaming smile still on his face, "It's 8:00. Time to get ready for your big day!"
Eyes drooping, I say, "Whaddaya blabbering about? Lemme sleep for crying out loud!"
Only then do I realize he has been holding a formal outfit, the clothes mostly red, in his arms. He sets them on the bed next to where I'm sitting, and he then eyes me up and down suspiciously. "Did you get any sleep last night, Duke?"
What? Three hours?
But I lie. "Of course. After I showered, I hit the pillow," I say, pointing at the pillow.
Still eyeing me suspiciously, he says, "Well, we're meeting up with Dawn in a few hours, so I suggest getting ready now. We want you to look your best. I'll leave now, so you can get dressed. Okay?"
"Okay," I mumble, then look at the neatly piled clothes.
Please don't let this be happening. Please don't make me see Dawn. I really don't want to see her. I'm gonna somehow end up doing something bad, very bad, to the both of us. I don't know if I can control myself. Please keep me away from her. Please...
I decide to start getting dressed, so they won't get any more suspicious thoughts or anything. I take off my shirt and look in the stand-up mirror next to the closet in the room. I solemnly look down at the cursed phantom flame marked where my heart would be. I slowly trace a claw on the edges of the purple and black flame.
I then take off my pants, leaving me only in my underwear now. Only that flame, that darn flame...
I take a breath in; I take a breath out.
And that's when the wings come out. I smile when I feel the intense heat on my spine once again.
Suddenly, the usual bright orange flames turn completely black.
