Wax

I have a new poem to share with all of you. I tried to show (not tell) some horror intention at the end. I tried something new with this one. I think it has a different feel to it than other poems I've written. At long last, a new poem by me that I actually like somewhat.

Hope you like it. :)

WAX

One drop
Two drops
Three drops
Four drops
They keep on falling down

Room of all black
A square table in its center
A candle rests atop it
The orange flame flickers
Back and forth
Again and again

The drops of melted wax
Fall down along the candle
The candle's plate starts filling
The drops continue to fall
One by one

The living are the ones paralyzed
They have nowhere to go
Solid and uniform
They stick to the candle
They are the candle

The dead can finally move
Liquid and separated
The living ones watch
The dead pass right on by
To the bottom of the candle
To their end

A stranger enters
The door got kicked down
Footsteps coming closer
The plate shatters on the floor
The candle hits the floor
There is a puddle of melted wax
The fire grows bigger
There's finally light
The darkness went away

It is so bright
Everything is burning away
It is so beautiful
There finally being light in the dark
The stranger has left
And the best part is
I can finally see again

  1. The last bit got me confused, if you could finally see again; how did you know wax was dripping down the candle? Or that the stranger left... I guess maybe the persona could see just before the poem started but uhh...

    Yep.

Or is it a something tile: I can see now since there is light. I'm not that good at understanding these things.

I guess the bottom of the candle is heaven or hell?

    An overall nice poem!

Well, that's all I'm saying for now.

    1. Ohh yeah, haha I guess the ending is confusing. Hopefully, this clarifies some things.

The descriptions of the place are describing the setting of the place. It's in this dark room with no light except for a little candle flame. And the solid candle wax watches as the dead or dying liquid melted wax drips off the sides of the candle. At the bottom, the liquid wax is apart from the candle (what it's been close to for so long). Then this stranger enters the dark and abandoned-looking house with the dark room. The stranger breaks the plate and the candle, causing the house to eventually get caught on fire. However, there's this person (in the form of "I") hidden in the house in the dark candle room. That person has been in the house for a very long time before the darkness came, so the knowledge of the setting is known. The stranger never sees this person. And the person's so happy that the stranger set the house on fire with the candle's flame since there's finally light and hope. And the darkness can represent depressing feelings and such, I guess. That have been around for several years ago for the person. And how there's finally light when the house is on fire (the room gets caught on fire and then the house afterwards.. small old house), means the person got hope only when their house caught on fire. So it's like depressing hope. Then that person just watches their house burn down.

The thoughts behind my writing piece can get to pretty complex. Um..

    3. Oh. Well since you cleared that up, I can say that you portrayed this message or what it's called, quite nicely.

I don't think I was properly awake when reding that poem but never mind.

    4. Ah, I can get how it can be confusing to understand though.

I was nearly half asleep when I explained it in my other comment. But anyway, glad you understood what I said there.
