The young man quickly looked both ways. No person was in sight. He let of a breath of relief and ran through the hallway.
Once he reached the end of the corridor, he took out a card from his jacket pocket. He held up the card; he liked how it flashed silver in the artificial light. With a downward swish of his hand, the wall in front of him disappeared to be replaced by a flight of stairs.
The man smiled and put the silver card, beginning to lose its visibility, back inside his jacket and the same pocket he took it out from. When he was certain that the card was securely hidden away, he began running down the flight of stairs.
At the base of the long flight of stairs was a door with a touchscreen. He drew a symbol on the top half of the screen, and on the bottom half where there was a numbered keyboard, he tapped the numbers of his code. Once the green circle appeared on the screen, the door opened. The man walked through; the door immediately closed and locked itself behind him.
He sighed and sat down on a couch. Before he had enough time to settle down and relax, a man with pale blue and white wavy hair entered the room from the opposite side. He did not look that happy.
"Where the hell have you been? You were supposed to be back here three hours ago," he said, sounding shrewd.
The man on the couch reluctantly got up. "I was busy doing stuff," he muttered, his eyes looking at the floor.
"There weren't any missions during the time you were out. You can't continue going on these secret missions, you know. You have to tell one of us whether you like to or not."
Looking away from the floor and into his light blue eyes, he sighed. "It's something personal. There's no need for any of you guys to get involved."
He looked with as much intensity back into his dark gray eyes. "We are your family. You can tell us anything, alright?"
After a few minutes of silence, he confessed. "This is crazy, but lately I've been thinking about him a lot. I mean, what if it's possible to bring him back? Something tells me that he knows about the reality barrier."
I also need to apologize for what I allowed to happen to him. He never deserved that. I should have stopped it when I had the chance.
A person with black and silver hair with purple highlights made himself appear visibly. He stood next to the one in the blue and had a hand on his hip. His gray eyes flashed.
"So, your brother?" he said, grinning.
The man swore under his breath. "I really hate how you do that," he started.
"That's why having the power of illusion is the best," he winked, his gray eyes shining brightly.
Acting as if he didn't hear that, he continued. "Well, yeah, my brother. I can't stop thinking about him."
Suddenly feeling a hand on his shoulder, he turned to find the one with the tri-colored hair standing next to him now.
"It's been long enough already. You've got to let go of all this guilt you have."
After wrenching himself away from his grip, he crossed his arms. "You won't understand. That never should have happened to him. I should have stopped our father from taking him!"
He took a deep breath.
"I should have been the one to be used as his test subject for his Jamaa project. I could have prevented a lot of terrible things to happen, but I didn't. Haha, who am I kidding? Daniel doesn't even know who I am!"
He was shaking.
"I hurt him. I did something very terrible."
He closed his eyes and had a flashback of a message rushing through his mind, hours before.
There's so much you don't know. You worked with your father. Did you know he made you create a part of yourself, so you would never leave your brother's side? Zios cares about others, see?
There's so much you don't know. Zios used you to mess with your brother's head. He used you to help him become a killer. Don't you understand?
You helped create what your brother calls Soulless. Zios manipulated you to make Daniel's life miserable.
You allowed Zios to turn a part of yourself into Soulless.
There's so much you don't know...
"Zios used me. He tricked me into making me go against my brother. He used me to create Soulless, so I would never leave Daniel's side. I'm the reason why he has his problems. This whole Jamaa project should have never happened. I was the only one who could stop it, but I didn't do a damn thing!"
Then the three guys went their separate ways.
Kill the part of me that haunts you every day. Then I'll bring you back here. Back where you belong.
FIERDAN
There's so much you don't know...
Something doesn't feel right. I open my eyes.
After looking around only to find myself being the only one here as usual, I remove some of the black goop off my body. Seeing so many tiny lines glowing bright blue makes me smile. I sure do love getting hurt.
Who am I kidding? I can't live without you. I'm nothing without you. I need you to hurt me, Soulless.
It was way more than a dream. This is real.
I grab Night Crow, and he lets out a strangled but distinct caw.
"You know what, Night? I think it's gonna hurt when Duke kills Soulless. That demon was really my only friend in the end. They never wanted to leave me alone."
I loosen my grip around his throat. His body is squirming under my paw. It's so easy to kill little things.
"Don't worry, little guy. I won't hurt you. You're a very valuable bird, Night."
He's criticizing me. I can tell from the look in his beady eyes. I let him go.
"I've got this under control. Don't worry, Night. Soulless won't take advantage of me without my consent ever again. I have them in their rightful place. I'm not stupid."
The bird flies away. I begin pacing in circles.
"I know there's something out there. I mean there has to be something out there, right? I showed Fauna it. But what's out there? What's on the other side of the Jamaa Mist? Ha, who am I kidding. You wouldn't know either."
All I can do is fantasize. Maybe I could find an answer when Soulless is dead. I can only hope.
Perhaps there's another life waiting for me on the side.
The idea of being able to start over my life.
That sounds fantastic.
